What materials should I get
to help me pack? |
|
Having enough boxes will make life easier.
Get many more than you think you’ll
need. Set aside about 10 to use on moving
day for bedding, clothing, cleaning supplies,
and other last minute items. Buy several
rolls of strong plastic packing tape, and
use unprinted paper or bubble wrap (not
newspaper) to wrap household goods. Whatever
you use, have enough so packing can proceed
smoothly. We can supply all the materials you need. We can also pack for you - it makes life much easier!

How do I make a record keeping system? |
|
By numbering each box and making a list of the box contents in a notebook, or on
a computer-printed list with consecutive box numbers. Keep the list in one central
location with your labels, marking pens, box tape and other supplies. Be specific
in your descriptions – “A-D files” is better than “files,”
and “China ware” better than “misc. kitchen.” When we pack for you this will be done by us.

How can I help movers know
where to put things? |
|
Designate a room name for each of your boxes(kitchen, dining room, etc.) The mover will then know where the boxes go when you arrive. You
can also put a notice on the wall where
you want boxes stacked (“Boxes here
please”) to keep them out of furniture
and traffic areas.
|
How can I keep small bits
from getting lost? |
|
Attach small parts to larger items using
tape or small envelopes (keep picture hooks
with pictures, etc.). Keep larger small
items, such as cable TV cord in Ziploc bag,
and tape these to the underside or back
of the item. As a backup, have a “parts
box” open on the kitchen counter and
fill it with cables, cords, parts, pieces,
brackets, or nails that are removed from
furniture items. Keep this box with you,
or mark it well with a rainbow of coloured
stickers so it can be easily located on
moving day.
|
Should I get insurance? |
|
Yes, for Silverware, collections, antiques,
etc. If you need insurance ask your mover he can arrange it. Also check what paperwork (receipts,
appraisals and photos) may be needed in
case of loss.

Anymore tips? |
|
Use brightly coloured storage tote boxes,
one for each member of your family. Let
each member fill theirs with items they’ll
want “right away” in the new
home; for example: sheets, towels, extension
cords, night lights, address books, pens,
paper, Kleenex, etc. Also make sure to group
items sensibly.Make sure they are clearly marked on the inventory.
